WEBINAR: The Role of Attorneys in Preventing Firearms Violence
Firearms violence is a significant public health concern and the leading cause of death for children 1-17 years old in the U.S. with implications for clients, attorneys, courts, and the broader community. Attorneys working in domestic violence, child custody, and other family law matters have an opportunity to talk with clients about risks associated with firearms when they or other family members are in crisis. In this webinar, faculty will share information about ways to have those conversations, present options for temporary offsite storage when clients own or have access to firearms, and other methods for reducing risks under a variety of circumstances including when there are firearms prohibitions in place. Practical tips and examples of retainer agreements and parenting plans designed to increase safety for clients, attorneys, and the broader community will also be discussed.
